March 19, 2021 COVID-19 Court Update:
Now that Governor Abbot has dropped the mask mandate, we wanted to give everyone an update on where things stand on the criminal court front. Some felony and misdemeanor court settings are still doing virtual settings, but many courts are also opening back up for in-person settings as well to try and get caught up on their docket. Many courts will be doing “inventory” dockets to see if a deal can be reached (“get their best offer”). Jury trials are still not approved at this time.
With it constantly changing, please check to see whether your court setting is an in-person or virtual Zoom hearing.
Our team of Colleyville & Fort Worth criminal defense attorneys and DWI lawyers at Hoeller McLaughlin PLLC are still helping clients and potential clients in need of an experienced defense attorney. We have been conducting consultations and client meetings on the phone or over virtual teleconference. We are also conducting in-person consults and client meetings by appointment only at our Colleyville office (please call to schedule an appointment). In addition, our office is adhering to any of the Governor’s Executive Orders, which includes social distancing for any in-person meetings (Thank you!).
March 11, 2021 COVID-19 Court Update:
Now that Governor Abbot has dropped the mask mandate, we wanted to give everyone an update on where things stand on the criminal court front. As of now, with limited exception, felony and misdemeanor court settings are still virtual. The court administrators have been meeting and discussing a re-opening up plan, which would include getting back into the courtroom for in-person court settings, probation hearings, and jury trials. There are still social distancing measures in place and restrictions set by the Supreme Court of Texas, so none of these plans have been finalized yet and we have not been given a date for when to expect that to happen. With more and more individuals getting vaccinated, we are hopeful by the summer, we can start getting back to normal court settings (or more normal).
With it constantly changing, please check to see whether your court setting is an in-person or virtual Zoom hearing (some courts are even allowing for call-in or attorney appearances during this time period).

January 14, 2021 COVID-19 Update:
Felony and misdemeanor courts have continued to suspend all in-person court dockets for individuals who are on bond. It is still unknown when in-person dockets will resume. With it constantly changing, please check to see whether your court setting is an in-person or virtual Zoom hearing (some courts are even allowing for call-in or attorney appearances during this time period). With limited exception, all jury trials and in-person hearings remain suspended (the Texas Supreme Court has extended a previous Emergency Order limiting jury trials and in-person hearings from December 1, 2020 to February 1, 2021, and now to April 1, 2021). Note: a few courts are working on getting approval to conduct jury trials with approved COVID-19 protocols.
