This week, a jury ruled in favor of plaintiff’s who had sued the NFL and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones after they lost their seats at the 2011 Super Bowl here in Arlington. The jury awarded plaintiff’s between $5,770 and $22,000. As a personal injury lawyer here in Fort Worth, these types of cases are always an interesting and here are some quick thoughts:
- Why didn’t the NFL settle these cases prior to trial? In a year with Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson, you would think the NFL would try to avoid any additional negative press. If anything, by taking care of these fans, the NFL could have garnered some good will (even if they didn’t feel like they didn’t do anything wrong). Instead, there in the headlines again (and again, not a positive reason).
- The little guy can still beat a big company in a jury trial. It’s always important to remember in personal injury cases that you can still win, even going up against a team of experienced lawyers. If you have the facts and dedicated trial lawyer on your side, you always have a chance.
